Top 10 Myths of Cloth Diapering | Top 10 Reason to Cloth Diaper

Congratulations on making the decision to cloth diaper your child! There are so many great reasons to use cloth diapers. Take a look at our "Top Ten Reasons To Cloth Diaper" (insert link) list and learn more! We've also debunked some cloth diapering myths as well, view our "Top Ten Myths" (insert link) list and find out the truth.

Cloth diapering is not what it used to be. Gone are the days of only prefolds, pins, and plastic pants. This is a new generation full of lots of choices. At first, cloth diapering can be overwhelming. There are so many terms to learn, like fitted diaper, AIO, doubler, and the list goes on. Take some time to educate yourself and you'll be a pro in no time! (To visit our glossary, click here [insert link]

How do I decide?
Cloth diapering a newborn is a little different than cloth diapering a toddler. Regardless of the age of your child, you'll need to first determine what kind of diaper you'll be using. Do you want the tailored fit of a fitted diaper (such as Poochies™) or the ease of an all-in-one diaper (such as HoneyBoy!™, Cuddle-In-One™, or All-In-One Poochies™ diaper system), or are you after the affordability of a single-sized diaper that will fit your child from birth to potty learning (such as CuddleBuns™ or MiniBuns™)? Once you decide what route you'll be taking, the battle is nearly complete!

How many diapers will I need?
Because newborns need to be changed every 2-3 hours, 24 hours per day, you'll need a minimum of three dozen. This should be ample for washing diapers every other day. You'll also want 6-8 covers on hand, unless you're using all-in-one diapers, then no covers are needed.

For an older baby, two dozen diapers should allow you to wash every 2 to 3 days. Older babies don't wet as often as newborns because their bladders are more mature, however, when they do wet, it's usually fairly heavy. To alleviate this issue, you'll need to have doublers, or extra absorbency pads. You should have one doubler for each diaper, but may end up using two for special times long car trips, overnight, or naps. Lastly, you'll need about 4-6 covers, unless you're using all-in-one diapers, then no covers are needed.

Once you start cloth diapering, you'll be able to fine tune your supplies and pick up a few extra items if need be. A lot depends on how often you want to wash laundry and how heavy a wetter your child is.
